Confocal microscopy is an optical imaging technique for increasing optical resolution and contrast of an image by using a spatial pinhole to reject out-of-focus light. Capturing multiple two-dimensional images at different depths in a sample enables optical sectioning and reconstruction of three-dimensional structure of an object.
